So what have we been up to recently? Well, we got hot and sweaty with Cambridge Bootcamps last weekend raising money for our cause. Thanks to some amazing, committed women who were willing to run, hop, skip, jump and crawl around in the mud in the name of breastfeeding support, we raised about £175. Well done everyone!
We have submitted our application to the charities commission – huge thanks to Justine and Rachel who have worked so hard on the application! Hopefully we’ll hear soon that our application has been successful and we can announce our new status to the world. Charity status is important because it will enable us to apply for funding from an increased number of sources, including the lottery fund. Rachel has been working on the documents, policies and guidelines that a charity has to have in place – she deserves a gold medal for all that hard work!
We now have a full complement of trustees, including a legal expert and a treasurer, so now we feel in safe hands. We can’t express in words how amazing it has been to have this circle of women surround us and form themselves into our stalwart supporters. The mothers and babies of Cambridge really are lucky to have such committed, loving support.
There has been a trickle of donations coming in through this site – to all those who have given their hard-earned cash, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts. We still only really have funding to guarantee the group running til the summer, so we must redouble our efforts to keep the funding coming in. In the grand scheme of things, we don’t need a lot, but times is tough not just for individuals but for the Council and other possible funders.
You can help, by liking our facebook page https://www.facebook.com/CambridgeBreastfeedingAlliance sharing our posts, telling your friends and family why supporting Homerton drop in is so vital (don’t know? Just have a little look round this site) and encouraging people to donate (it’s easy – see that button over on the homepage?).
We need to keep on at the powers that be, too. We are having regular meetings with the County Council, but if you fancy asking your Councillor or MP some probing questions about the state of breastfeeding support in our county, it all helps.
Thank you. You’re all amazing.
Maddie, Rachel, Anna and Justine xx
